Blisters will appear within the first year of your roofs life but can occur later on as well as shorten the life of your roofing system. Blisters are differentiated from hail hits by the perfect circles they leave behind and the fiberglass matting exposure. 

Hail is the most common type of damage done that causes shingles to fail and drastically lower the life of your roofing system. When hail hits, the granules of your shingles are knocked away, and the shingle is impacted, allowing rain to deteriorate the shingle and cause future leaks into your home. Falling trees and limbs can cause serious damage to homes and should be looked at by an inspector to asses the structural damage. Limbs that fall on homes may not cause structural damage but can cause enough damage to your shingles to warrant replacement. It is advised to have someone look at your roofing system to ensure no immediate damage has occurred after such events.

High winds can also cause damage to your shingles in the forms of blown-off shingles, creased shingles, zippering, and lifting from the decking. Zippering is when your shingles are ripped up after they have been sealed down from strong winds. Any shingles that are easy lifted from the decking is more than likely due to wind damage.
